Are you ready to start backpacking?

So, you’ve been thinking about backpacking for a while now, but are you ready?

The answer is probably: YES!

Look, no one can tell you if you are ready to hit the trail with some weight on your back, if you are ready to sleep under the stars miles away from a road, possibly without phone service, if you are ready to poop in a hole you dug that’s at least six inches deep, or if you are ready to deal with the sounds of nature – a squirrel that sounds like a bear outside your tent, for example.

In some cases you might not even be able to answer those questions. Until you give it a try.

So, my suggestion, ask yourself this question instead: AM I WILLING TO TRY?

If you are, then you are half way there! Now you just need a plan to make sure you are prepared. Here are some key elements of backpacking that you will need to know more about to feel confident.

I’ve been backpacking for over 20 years! I love planning trips, exploring wild places, and taking new adventures. I’ve run a couple backpacking organizations, lived in an RV for a few years, and love to run. Let’s get wild!
